Hero and Villain Squares - Lining the back and the final edging

Image
For this part I used a double layer of black polar fleece. I cut the two layers to the current size of the blanket. For the first layer, at each of the corners of the squares in the blanket I secured with a single stitch and knot of cotton thread. For the second part I pinned both layers on the back and secured it on using the method in the YouTube tutorial by Yarn Andy. https://youtu.be/_PM5bNwPXrY She also has a blog outlining the process https://yarnandy.com/how-to-add-backing-to-crochet-blankets/ I used a 2.5mm hook and black 8 ply yarn to start the edge along the fleece. Then switched to 4mm hook when connecting the blanket and the fleece using single crochets instead of slip stitches around the entire blanket, and using (2 sc, 3 ch, 2sc) in each corner. For the next round I did the same in blue, but skip every second sc for a chain. For the last round I went back to black, put two sc in each gap and used (2 sc, 1ch, 2sc) in each co

Hero and Villain Squares - Joining the squares

Image
Invisible stitch edge by edge, one square at a time, using the long ends left from edging the squares and a darning needle. The picture below is numbered by which edges were joined in which order, you can see the logical next steps.  I put my rows together first (the red joins) then joined them together starting at the bottom right (purple).

Edging the Hero and Villain Granny Squares

Image
Here goes ... Hero and Villain Squares - Edging each square. Note: I blocked my squares before this point to try and ensure an even and flat shape for each square. If you'd like to be even more precise you could block them after this step. 4mm hook In black... Start in bottom right corner. Dc inc, (16 dc, (dc inc, ch 2, dc inc, all in the same gap))x3, 16 dc, dc inc in the same gap as the first dc, ch 1, sl st to join. Finish off. Leave long threads for joining. I made a mistake at the start that you can see in this photo. If you're not careful you will put 17dc down the side where you were joining the circles and changing colours. Make sure this side has 16 dc and skip that joining space.
