In orange ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In white ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.


Open Mouth

Start in black...

Ch 8
Start in 2nd chain from hook
Work in a row
1. Sl st, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st.

Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.


Teeth

In white...

Ch 3
Start in 2nd chain from hook
Work in a rows 
1. 2 sl st, ch 2, work next row into these chains
2. Sl st, ch 2, work next row into these chains
3. Sl st, ch 3, work next row into these chains
4. 2 sl st.
Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.


Eyes

In yellow...

Right eye

Ch 4, turn, start in 2nd chain from hook, 2 hdc, sl st

Left eye

Ears

In green...

Right ear

Hat

Work in rows.

In purple...

Tail End of Hat

Work in rows.

In purple...

Start each row in second DC from hook to give the "wavey" appearance.

Ch 5,
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 4 dc, ch 2 turn
2. 3 dc, ch 2 turn
3. 2 dc, ch 2 turn
4. dc
Finish off.


Pull the appliques to fit their shape as you sew.

For the face, use black to make eyes through the yellow eye shapes.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
