3. (dc inc, dc) x12 (36) sl st to join ch 1
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In grey, ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

Bat applique

In black...
Ch16
Work around this chain of 16.
Start in 2nd chain from hook
Hdc, dc, trc, ch2, 3sl st to return to the next chain, 3sc, dc, ch1, 1sl st to return to the next chain, sc, dc, ch1, 1sl st to return to the next chain, 3sc, ch2, trc, dc, hdc.
Turn and work in the same chain from the other side.
Hdc, trc, ch, 3sl st to return to the next chain, sc, dc, ch, hdc, sc, hdc, trc, 2sl st to return to the next chain, hdc, sc, hdc, dc, ch, sc, trc, ch, 3sl st to return to the next chain, hdc, sl st to finish.

Leave long thread for sewing. Pull the applique to fit the batman shape as needed while stitching to the work.

If you want a little more definition on the finished piece:
In yellow...
Make an extra round of sc working through top to bottom between the yellow and grey circles (48 sc)
