Light grey, maroon, lime green, dark green, dark grey, purple, pale yellow, and black 8ply yarn, 4.00mm hook

Work in rounds

In green...
Ch2
1. 12 dc into second chain from hook 
(12) sl st to join ch 1
2. dc inc x 12 (24) sl st to join
3. (dc inc, dc) x12 (36) sl st to join ch 1
In purple ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In dark grey ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

Add pale yellow stars in the purple ring if preferred.



Hair

Start both sides in black...

Work in rows.

Right side.

Ch 22, in maroon, ch 5,
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 5 x sc inc, in black, 21 sc ch 2 turn.
2. Skip first stitch, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, sl st.
Finish off.

Left side.

Ch 11, in maroon ... ch 5.
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 5 sc inc, in black... 10 sc.
Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.

Pull the appliques to fit the hair shape.

For the face, use black to make eyes and dark green for the mouth. Use light grey to stitch on face markings.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
