In purple ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In dark grey ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.



Hair

In green...

Work in rows.

Right side.

Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 4 sc, ch 7 turn.
2. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 6 sc, ch7, turn.
3. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 6 sc, ch7, turn.
2. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 6 sc.
Finish off.

Left side.

Ch 8
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 6 sc, ch 7 turn.
2. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 6 sc, ch7, turn.
3. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 6 sc, ch5, turn.
2. Start in 2nd chain from hook, 4 sc.
Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.



Teeth

In pale yellow...

Work in rows.

Ch 2, start in 2nd chain from hook

1. 3 dc, ch 2 turn (3)
2. 3 dc inc, ch 2 turn (6)
3. Sc in 2nd ch, 6 sc, ch 2, sl st back in last sc.

Finish off, leave long thread for sewing.

Pull the appliques to fit the hair and teeth shape.

For the face, use black to make eyes and dark red for the lips.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
