1. 12 dc into second chain from hook 
(12) sl st to join ch 1
2. dc inc x 12 (24) sl st to join
3. (dc inc, dc) x12 (36) sl st to join ch 1
In teal ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In dark grey ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.



Hair

Start both sides in orange...

Work in rows.

Right side.

Ch 27
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 5 x sc inc, 21 sc ch 2 turn.
2. Skip first stitch, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 3 sc, sl st.
Finish off.

Left side.

Ch 16
Start in 2nd chain from hook
1. 5 sc inc, 10 sc.
Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.

Pull the appliques to fit the hair shape.



Hair leaf

Work in rows 

In lime green...

Ch 5
Start in 2nd ch from hook
1. 2 sl st, ch 3, work back into these chains in row 2, starting in 2nd chain from the hook
2. 2 sl st, ch 3, work back into these chains in row 3, starting in 2nd chain from the hook
3. 2 sl st. Sl st into the 2nd chain from the start to join the leaf together.
Finish off.

Leave long thread for sewing.

Pull the appliques to fit the leaf shape.


Bottom leaves

Make 3 dark green and 2 line green leaves following the same pattern as the hair leaf. They can arranged at the bottom of her face. 
Pull the appliques to fit the leaf shape.


For the face, use black to make eyes and red for the mouth.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
