Work in rounds

1. 12 dc into second chain from hook

2. dc inc x 12 (24) sl st to join
3. (dc inc, dc) x12 (36) sl st to join ch 1
In green ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In dark grey ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.


Head band

In black...

Ch 14, turn and start in 2nd chain from hook. 13 sc. Finish off



Hair

Top

In white...

Work in rows.

Ch 15
Start in 2nd chain from hook.

1. (2 sc, sc inc) x4, 2sc.
Finish off.

Make 3.

Ch 12
Start in 2nd chain from hook.

1. (2 sc, sc inc) x3, 2sc.
Finish off.

Make 2.

Longer 3 at middle back, shorter 2 in the middle in front.

Sides of hair

Left side 1 (above hair band)

Ch 15
Start in 2nd chain from hook.

1. (2 sc, sc inc) x4, 2sc.
Finish off.

Left side 2 (at the bottom of hair band)

Ch 18
Start in 2nd chain from hook.

 1. (2 sc, sc inc) x5, 2sc.
Finish off.



Right side 1 (above hair band)

Ch 15
Start in 2nd chain from hook.

1. (2 sc, sc inc) x4, 2sc.
Finish off.

Right side 2 (at the bottom of hair band)

Leave long threads for sewing.

Pull the appliques to fit the hair shape.

For the face, use black to make eyes and red for the mouth.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
