White, blue, red and black 8ply yarn, 4.00mm hook

Work in rounds

In black...
Ch2
1. 12 dc into second chain from hook 
(12) sl st to join ch 1
2. dc inc x 12 (24) sl st to join
3. (dc inc, dc) x12 (36) sl st to join ch 1
In blue ch1 to join...
4. (dc inc, 2 dc) x12 (48) sl st to join ch 1
In white ch1 to join...
5. dc 3 inc (3in1), hdc, 8 sc (hdc, dc inc, ch 1, dc inc, hdc, 8sc)x3. hdc, dc (56). sl st to join ch 1
6. dc, ((2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 13 dc, )x3, (2dc, ch, 2dc) in next stitch, 12 dc (64) sl st to join.

Finish off. Weave in ends.


Eyes

In white...

Left eye

Ch 7, turn, start in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sl st, sc, 2 hdc, sl st

Right eye

Ch 7, turn, start in 2nd chain from hook, sl st, 2 hdc, sc, 2 sl st

Leave long threads for sewing.



Teeth (make 8)

In white...

ch 2, leave tails to tie behind working after stitching into place.


Tongue

In red...

Ch 10, turn, 2 sc, 3 sl st. Finish off.

Leave long threads for sewing.


Pull the appliques to fit their shape while sewing.

We are poison to you Spider-Man, that's why we call us Venom!

I suppose it would be common for other toddlers to have a superhero obsession similar to my own two-year-old son. One of his favourite activities is picking a super hero and a super villain, assigning one of each of those roles to himself and a parent, enforcing dress up, and enacting an elaborate play fight based on the characters. I prefer to help out with the dress up part by making these costumes rather than buying them; the amount of superheroes and villains he chooses between would render me bankrupt if I made them all available! So soon enough, Venom was the project on my agenda and the main part was the beanie/mask. It was a "make it up as you go along" crochet project and so I wrote it down as I went along. Both my son and myself were happy with the final product.
